Palm Beach Photographic Workshops –
Travel to Bhutan
with Vincent Versace
At the heart of our desire to create photographs is the need to convey the feeling experienced when we see a moment of life happen before our eyes, when the image is felt and seen.
The challenge of photography is to create still images that move the viewer same we were moved when committed to the moment and the image was captured. All to frequently, the attempt to reveal the image on a monitor or paper as the image was experienced becomes a laboring and frustrating. This workshop reveals the methods and techniques for overcoming these challenges both out in the field and in the digital darkroom.
A workshop based on the newly revised book “Welcome to Oz 2.0”

Communicating through the frame -
A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography
“At the heart of our desire to create photographs is the need to convey the feeling that we experience while seeing a moment of life happen before our eyes-at the time the image is felt and seen.

A workshop based on Vincent's new book “Welcome to Oz 2.0” is for digital photographers that want to learn the secret of how to be taken by a photograph rather than a photographer taking pictures.

Return to Oz: The Colors of Fall
Capture the essence of the season through renewed vision and enhanced craft
“Light, gesture and color are the key components of any Photograph.”
Create timeless imagery by capturing the gesture of a moment with stillness. A continuation of material covered in Versace’s Welcome to Oz 2.0 workshop, participants explore how to make unique imagery in camera as well how to approach post processing in Photoshop not as if it is a verb, but as a noun.
There are few places on earth that are as full of light, gesture, color and the potential for timelessness than October in Maine. From the color and hue of the leaves to the mists of fog and rain, the diversity of light creates the environment for stunning imagery.
Working with lessons from his latest book to be released in the fall of 2010, a few of the many topics that are covered:
- Bokeh- the quality of how a lens goes from in focus to blur
- Depth of Field- how to use blur and focus to bring forth a more powerful image. (All students are provided with a free copy of Focal point 1.0 software from onOne software)
- Weather- how to use and make it in the computer when it doesn’t show as planned.
- The Lazarus Effect- how to make an out of focus image come back into focus. (All students are provided with actions and configurator by the instructor. Also three free plug-ins from NiK software
- Gesture- what is the gesture of a moment, how to capture it and how to use it to great motion with in a stillness
- Advanced Black and White- every black and white technique known to man, when to and when not to use them. (All students are provided with actions and configurator by the instructor)
- Shape and Color- How to use shape as the unwitting ally of color, so that color is remembered over shape in your images.
The result of this week’s intensive work in both the field and digital lab are images that echo the stillness and beauty of October in Maine - of the light, of the gesture, of the moment. The photographs are upheld by the unique vision of the participants in combination with exquisite technical craft.

Gain deep insight into India’s history, from the Mughul empires through colonialism and Partition. Become familiar with Gandhi’s principle of satyagraha, a peaceful force that would eventually bring the British Empire to its knees. Survey India’s highly stylized musical and dance traditions, and get to know the subcontinent’s vastly influential Nobel laureate mathematicians and poets. Enjoy artful cuisine renowned throughout the world. To round out an incomparable itinerary we’ve included the greatest of Asia’s festivals, the Pushkar Camel Fair. Whole families travel hundreds of miles around to trade, receive blessings, and revel in the carnival atmosphere. There will be mystics, musicians, camel races, and vendors plying their wares from the far corners of Rajasthan. Enjoy exquisite accommodations throughout, including restored palaces that lie just outside the bustle of major cities and attractions. We're confident that you'll enjoy their amazing architecture and old-world opulence as a highlight of your trip to India.
